Work, music… the same old stuff.

I have just had a very intense work day/week. I keep reminding myself that it’s not giving me the dreads, like I have had before with jobs, the kind where you wake up and want to roll over and smoke a cigarette. (Yes, that is gross; it was not a great time in my life, to be sure.) So far I am rolling with the punches and putting out fires (many of which are from my own smoldering heedless matches I tossed weeks ago). At least I am earning my keep.

I got some more work done on my sleeve; I added a giant hogweed and a the volcano. I think this is the first time I can say I would have done things a little differently now that it’s on my skin, but it’s a catch-22 – I doubt I could have envisioned those things prior to the work being done. There is one thing I feel confident we can add as an afterthought, so that’s cool. I think this puts me over the halfway done mark for sure, as well. Wow.

The Genesis fans like it; in fact I took my arm to the east coast fan club anniversary shenanigans last weekend. I’ve said over and over again how amazing it is to be surrounded by people who get your particular interest so thoroughly. This time it was more casual and social, since there was no show, just socializing. I got to just chat with people. There was even some impromptu jamming. Oh, and of course we projected the Rome concert on the wall and watched it together, as well as playing silly theme-appropriate games. Whatever, I loved it all. There was even a dog in a Genesis t-shirt. And that image to the left is not an earthquake in Jersey, that’s the sight of everyone air drumming together. I’m in there somewhere. Nerds.

Slight musical left turn: if there are any aussies out there who can do me a favor, how would you feel about going to your local big box music store and picking me up a copy of Mental Notes by Split Enz? The fan club is in a push to get the record gold status in Australia (it was their debut and apparently never quite made it) and I want to help, but it’s hard from here. It’s as old as me! God, I love this record. That guy at the link says it better than I can.

In class we’ve been doing cat dissection for three sessions. The cats are getting rank. My lab partners are doing a crap job of it, as you may know sometimes arteries are small and hard to see, and they almost destroyed a bunch of the important ones we have to identify. It is hard to not display my anger with them. Nonetheless, I think I have the iliolumbar straight from the internal and external iliac…

I am going on vacation in just over a week. I am thinking of trying the Curly Girl no-poo method on my hair. If anyone out there is a no-poo fanatic, let me know. It is really hard to find hair products without “cones”.

GREAT FUCKING NEWS: Beardfish to play Nearfest. I AM FUCKING THERE. No matter what.

My foot is still effed up some but my teeth have no new cavities.

And now for my brief TV thoughts… (includes Fringe, Supernatural, Grey’s, PR, Life, and more…)

Fringe is pretty good. My ambivalence about most TV, even the stuff I profess to follow, is hard to overcome but the latest episode kind of had me excited even while snarky. Yes, a good bit of it is still Josh Jackson, but I am coming to enjoy the crazy doctor’s predictable unpredictability and I even am starting to like whatserface a teeny bit. When we get to see her at home with whiskey and cereal, she gets humanized a little. Even though “it took us years to spot that guy and you did it in 2 minutes!” was silly.

I was trying to imagine what it is I like about this show that’s different from Lost or say Heroes that makes me hate those shows so much. I think for Heroes, it is that I don’t get to see things from the point of view of “the bad” so much. It’s also that everything is not so fucking world-shatteringly serious, although technically that’s the premise of the show. On the balance, it’s pretty goofy and not serious compared to the horror turns that Heroes is taking. (Oh yeah, in case anyone didn’t get the bulletin: fuck Heroes in the ear. Sick of Sylar, sick of being yanked around. Plus, absulotely refuse to watch anyone turn into a giant bug.)

Supernatural kicks ass more and more. There is about 5% of the show that irritates the crap out of me, but when it’s not doing that I love it. Again, it’s all about striking that balance between goofy and serious, and giving me fantastic elements without putting the proverbial screws to me to see how uncomfortable you can make me.

Project Runway: God, what the hell! Why? Who? What? I wish I liked anyone on this show apart from Tim. Fashion is stupid. Yeah, I’ll watch the finale eagerly. Kenleigh, you’re not original, embrace it! Build on the kitsch and the classic. Judges: your bullshit is almost as arbitrary as Tyra’s! Please!

How I met Your Mother: Meh. Passable. Yeah, I get that you guys have your finger on the pulse of my generation, etc. Doogie dangerously close to overexposure.

Life: The return! I am hoping that we get more zen and less snark in future episodes, please. Jack says that for a procedural drama they don’t do great procedure. I say: that’s not why I watch! I watch for the zen! Also: Donal Logue! As long as he doesn’t seem too forced he might be a great addition to the cast.

Grey’s: Oh. So the icicle was just pure cheese, right. Pure ER. I got tricked into watching ER! Dammit. But they gave me girl-girl lovings so I’ll keep watching.

Finally, drumroll please, my favorite show on television right now:
Without a Trace. I cannot get enough of Jack, Danny, Martin, Vivian and Sam. I am a little skeptical about the addition of Steven Weber and actually have not been watching this in any kind of order at all so I have no idea why Jack was demoted but I’m sure the reruns will come around on TNT eventually. GOD! Right now that cast has it all over Cold Case so those are languishing unwatched on the DVR while I snork up ep after ep of missing people.

Wow. How do I have time to watch all that TV?

Are threre any other acts from this side of the World that interest you. I saw the link to Mr. Kilby.

Send me a postal address and expect the package by airmail.

    Kind Regards.

Thank you so much, that is a very generous offer! I am not sure what the shipping would be, surely it would be extravagant.

I appreciate your comments regarding writing style. I never really know who my audience really is, so I just write in a way I like.

I will definitely have to list you in my blogroll, as your site has so many obscure gems.
